would be around Y30. It ended up being Y39. Entry is Y58. It takes
about 90 mins.
Adam and Spud both didn't have the name written in Chinese and I
hadn't found the chinese words on the internet so the best I could do
was say to the driver Xiong Mao which is panda in chinese. Can you
imagine someone hopping in a cab in downtown brisbane proclaiming
loudly: KOALA.
Because that is just about what we did... hilarious. Anyway the guy
said to me something something xiong mao something... and all I could
say back was "shi" (yes). because i figured even if he was taking us
to the zoo instead we would see one panda...
luckily it is the big attraction here so we got there. On the way we
saw old buses with timber trim, very quaint.
The centre is amazing, its a huge park. lots of walking. There is a
big lake called Swan Lake and there were only 2 swans we could see.
But heaps of koi and they were all different colours and you could
feed them bread. School kids were everywhere and very funny as when
they saw Adam and Spud they would yell HELLOOOOOO.
There are enclosures everywhere, single pandas, groups of pandas. We
saw juveniles fighting and they make this kind of grunting and
screaming. A bit like a possum but louder. When they eat they are just
crunch crunch crunching.
Didn't see any babies. This place is well set up, there are education
centres mostly unattended, and all mutlimedia. Videos, games,
interactive slideshows. The game I played was a panda telling you what
it felt and you had to guess the illness and then guess the
medication. Then you could keep going and see how long you could help
your panda survive.
Saw red pandas too. Then we went to another restaurant there which
was the same problem, menu in Chinese. Picked out a pepper coated
beef... it had green chillis on it that I thought was capsicum. WHEW.
Then it was time to head back and just as well as the misty rain that
greeted us when we got here was now proper drizzle. There were no cabs
around but a Chinese woman grabbed me and started talking away.
Finally she pulled out a sheet which had basic English about taking us
back to Tianfu Square or Chunxi Road and I understood... vehicle for
hire.. How much I say. She says 80. I saw per person? she says yes. I
said: Tai Gwai le!!! too expensive. We just got here for 39!!! Then I
think her husband comes over and we are communicating badly. But we
agree three persons for 50. And so we get back to Chengdu aand they
score themselves two bonus Caramello Koalas.
