Dufu's cottage and last day in Chengdu

DU FU's cottage and grounds. Chengdu. 4 April

DuFu was a famous Chinese poet and he fled from somewhere to Chengdu and lived in a thatched cottage. It is preserved and then fans built the rest of the ground to celebrate his achievements after his death.

We had a plane to get on and rushed off early in the morning to see this final Chengdu treasure. And what a fabulous treasure! It costs 60 yuan entry (about $10).

It's a very classic Chinese garden with winding brick and block pathways, arch bridges, waterways, songbirds, beautiful trees, bonsai, hedge trimmings, classic architectural buildings, pavillions... the works!! round doorways. I love those things.

We ran most of the way and still didn't cover it. I think Adam read it is 16 hectares.

There were early morning walkers and tai chi people. There are also ruins of a much earlier house, i think they said qing era.

The cutest thing was that there were speakers piping classical, atmospheric Chinese music and they were covered up by fake rock sculptures.

It was really good and a nice highlight for the last day here. I really wish Australia had a chinese garden that was like this!!! Nice huge grounds to get lost in. Like Central Park in NYC.

There were buildings that had paintings featuring his poems on the side. A room of his books and critics, another building of statues of him. The statues were marvellous.

We saw eels in the ponds.

So then it was back out to the hotel and then to the ji cheng (airport).

Earthquake news... today we saw a hotel (some of them have ticker boards outside) and this one said: No Japanese Admitted.  I suggest this is a fear of radiation.
