3 Sep - Harbourfront

Harbourfront on Lake Ontario is a loose, casual boardwalked area housing the water police, eateries and boat hire. Expect no strip of 5 star restaurants. You can see the island airport from here and the tiny landing strip the planes have to use. There are some historic looking boats you can hire out for parties. Canoes and kayaks are racked up, ready for your paddling adventures.

We stopped in at The Power Plant - a revamped historic site now something akin to our own Powerhouses in Australia. Today there was an exhibition called Adaptation Between Species. It explores the relationship between animals and humans. There was a wall of photos of cats. I really loved the video of cats playing keyboards, arranged into a dischordic piece by Cory Arcangel (Drei Klavierstucke).

Two main video works as well:

Australia is also given representation at The Power Plant in the form of Apologies 1-6, Shaun Gladwell (from Sydney)'s silent slo-mo film of communing with roadkill, a powerful and humbling 27 minutes.

Marcus Coates. He is a performance artist from the UK who channels animals. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfBgWtAIbRc

They had both The Plover's Wing and Journey to the Lower World playing.

In a nearby mall we went into the Inuit Museum and had a look at carvings. Very interesting.

Dinner was at Terroni which was a hip and happening Italian eatery. I had a pasta with zucchini and buffalo mozzarella. Tasty. Then strawberry and grape gelato.
