How about weather?

If you want to come to Beijing, bring yourself something emollient like sorbelene. Every day I am applying cream to my hands and face every few hours. It is cold and dry and this place won't make friends with you if you dislike static electricity. The proliferation of plastic/polyester jackets only makes things more exciting. It's dusty too. People are constantly sweeping the floors and many shops have the same heavy plastic curtains that you would see in the meat locker of Coles. Due to their love of polished floors, the fine dust makes everything slippery. What amazes me is that while people sometimes wear face masks to keep out the dust, barely anyone wears sunglasses or some other protective eyewear. Dry, cold and dusty - really not friendly to the eyes.

I didn't need any tissues today - the key is to not let the body temperature change too much when going in and out. I'm wearing thermals, long sleeve T (one I got from www.plasteredtshirts.com, 140rmb), a short T on top, long johns and jeans and a Columbia jacket which is not very warm. I may need to get a puffy plastic jacket like a lot of the women are wearing here.
