I had a day off today which meant hanging out in my room til 2pm, sorting out my things, snacking on Beijing delights collected on days out and getting my mind in order.
We did visit the Lama Temple but because I was tardy it was already shut. Instead we went across to the hutongs and explored, finding a cafe and sitting for a "Cherry Royale" flavoured coffee.
All along the road where the temple is are shops that sell incense and other things to burn to offer to your departed.
We went into a tea shop where I smelled really gorgeous tea. Bought two varieties of jasmine, only hope I can get it back to Oz. it was 50rmb for 500grams.
Found another concept t shirt shop called Better Travel Than Dead. It also sells LP books and the Taxi Guide for Beijing.
We took a cab over to see The Egg (ok, the opera house...) which lights up blue and violet. Next to that is the Peoples Hall, a big rectangular building. Along the same avenue was the very brightly lit Tienanmen Square. The avenue has these art deco lights. Took my first bus ride as cabs do not stop along there.
