When I flew over Beijing at 11pm I saw vast roadways all lit up with amber. They criss crossed the blackness for miles. Other than that, there's not a lot of night light, not like Las Vegas. A few neon signs. The airport is enormous, with a huge domed roof. All the officials are in very decorated police style uniforms. Giant gold number badges instead of name tags, police shaped hats, tassels, shoulder buttons. There was a crowd controller on a segueway.
I've sent the photos to my usual web album but now discover I can't open that page to change the settings on who can see the photos. I can't email them to my usual facebook email. It's kinda frustrating, too early to be thinking about what to try next.
The room has the widest door I have ever seen on a hotel room. This is the Super 8 chain, which is somewhat equivalent to the Formule 1 chain in Oz - very basic. Except that the bathroom is quite enormous. 3x3m. I suppose you can practice your arabesques in there.
And I've just discovered that I should have used boiled water to brush my teeth with today and last night... !!! I hope my inoculation works.
